Namenia Turnip Seeds. 45 to 65 days. Brassica rapa. Non-GMO, Open Pollinated. Namenia is a turnip growng primarily for turnip greens, as it produces a small root. Flavorful big stem leaves for cooking or in salads. Will grow multiple harvests after cutting. Great as a microgreen, baby leaf (6 inches) or full leaf (13 inches). Traditionally grown alongside carrots, beets, and parsnips, the turnip is one of the oldest, most popular root vegetables ever. Although a renowned domesticated crop for nearly three thousand years, the turnip was revolutionized by 16th century English statesman Charles Turnip Townshend, promoting it in crop rotation along with clover, barley, and wheat. Turnip is a cool season crop best sown directly in early spring, 3 weeks before final frost. Like many root vegetables, turnip does not transplant well and ought to be directly sown. Plant 3-4 seeds one half inche deep and 4-6 inches apart in very loose, well-tilled, well-drained soil in full sun. Seeds germinate in 3-10 days, maturing in 50-60 days. Soil must be well-tilled for turnip to grow fast and unobstructed. Frost hardy. Grow in cool weather of spring or fall, as it will bolt in hot weather. About 12,000 Seeds per ounce.
